Rare Soundtrack CD's for Sale or Trade
I collect movie soundtrack recordings on CD. You'd be surprised how often
a soundtrack is released only to go out of print a year or two later. This
causes many soundtrack CDs that were once readily available at malls and
superstores everywhere to become rare collectibles after a very short time.
Many movie soundtrack CDs are produced only in limited quantities, sell for
high prices to the collector community, and then are never pressed again.
Most such discs never appear in regular stores; instead, they are available
only from the half-dozen or so soundtrack recording specialty stores around
the world. If you're not a collector who's aware of this small distribution
network, then you probably never get to see these discs; odds are you wouldn't
even know they existed.
Finally, some movie soundtrack CDs are available in other countries, but are
rare here in the US because there is no domestic release, or the domestic
release falls into one of the catagories listed above, i.e., it was released
here as a limited edition pressing, or was simply allowed to go out of print
and has not been re-pressed since.
Here, then, are a few discs of varying degrees of rarity, that I would like
to trade for stuff on my want-list, or
sell for the listed price. If you're interested in buying or trading for
these discs, drop me a line at

Note that for purposes of trades, I'm generally not interested in
soundtrack song CDs like The Big Chill, Pulp Fiction, or the
Forest Gump song collections.
Legend
-
-- the item is on hold for
someone who has sent e-mail indicating their intention to purchase or trade
for it, but I have not yet received the payment or trade. Go ahead and send
me e-mail if you are interested in CDs that are "on hold"; I will sell them
to you if for some reason I don't receive payment from the person who
reserved them. (Your odds are low, though, so don't pass up a copy if
you see it somewhere else).
- -- the item has been sold (or
traded) and I don't have any more. Since I am not a dealer, I usually only
have one (sometimes two if I was thinking ahead and picked up an extra copy)
of each CD. However, check back. Since I trade with people, I sometimes
end up with new copies of CDs I'd previously sold out of.
-
The Accidental Tourist by John Williams, US$95.00 --
notched spine, but otherwise in pretty good shape and the CD itself plays
just fine. This Williams disc has been out of print for a while now and
is more than a little difficult to find.
-
Apollo 13 by James Horner, US$85.00 -- promotional score-only
release with black and white cover and 58+ minutes of Horner's underscore.
-
Batteries Not Included by James Horner, US$75.00 --
There is a small hole drilled in the lower left-hand corner of the booklet,
and another small hole drilled just below the bar-code on the end-paper
on the back of the jewel box. The CD is otherwise in good shape (plays
just fine). This CD is rare because it has been out of print for so long.

Foros Timis Ston Greco (Tribute to El Greco)
by Vangelis, US$500. One of a limited edition of 3000, never
originally available in any store (not even the specialty shops).
It was produced as an expensive benefit disc for an art gallery in Athens,
which was the only place you could get it. The CD is hand signed
by Vangelis himself (in Greek!) and comes in a clothbound box with
a gorgeous 8"x11" paperbound art book of El Greco's paintings with
text in both
Greek and English. The music is more serious than most of Vangelis's
recent albums have been. Two opera singers -- soprano Montserrat
Caballé and tenor Konstantinos Paliatsaras -- each perform
on a (different) track, lending an aura of sublime decadence to
the music as only Vangelis can compose it. The music is good,
the packaging is outstanding, which, combined with the rarity
of anything signed by Vangelis, adds up to a highly desirable
CD. It would not surprise me if, in a year or two, this CD
becomes the most sought-after Vangelis album of all time.
